Towel par stock is the number of complete towel sets held for your operation. One par covers one complete change across the rooms or guest places you plan to service. Additional pars cover linen in the laundry and clean reserve stock.
A three-par starting point
Three par is a useful planning example: one set in use, one being laundered and one clean set ready for replacement. Your actual requirement can be higher or lower depending on occupancy, service frequency, laundry turnaround and delivery reliability.
Planning formula: rooms × guest places per room × pieces provided per guest × chosen par level. Calculate each towel type separately. If you provide bath mats per bathroom, calculate those by bathroom rather than guest count.
Worked example: a 20-room property
Assume 20 rooms, two guest places per room, one hand towel and one bath towel per guest, and one bath mat per bathroom. At three par, the initial planning quantities are:

This is an example, not a mandatory room standard. Add bath sheets, face cloths, pool towels or extra guest allocations only if your property provides them. Round the final order to the actual pack options available for each product.
When should you increase your reserve?
- An external laundry collects less frequently than your room turnover.
- Peak occupancy or back-to-back check-ins leave little recovery time.
- You need separate spa or pool stock.
- A proportion of linen is regularly removed for stains, repairs or replacement.
Keep a simple replacement record
Track clean stock, rooms in use, laundry dispatches, returns and discarded pieces separately. Review shortages and losses over several service cycles before changing the par level. Keep sizes and ranges clearly labelled to avoid filling one towel category with the wrong item.
